STERLING SILVER CARE

Sterling silver is a precious metal that naturally develops a soft patina or can tarnish over time. This is a normal characteristic of genuine silver due to oxidisation or moisture from the air especially when left unworn and can easily be refreshed with occasional polishing using a soft jewellery cloth. Alternatively you can also use a good quality silver cleaning solution that are widely available and easy to use. Avoid any polishes that contain harsh chemicals.

To help preserve its shine, we recommend removing sterling silver jewellery before swimming, showering or exercising, and avoiding prolonged contact with perfumes, lotions and household cleaning products. When not being worn, store your jewellery in a dry place, ideally in its pouch or jewellery box, to help minimise tarnishing.

STERLING SILVER: FAQs

What is 925 sterling silver?

925 sterling silver is made from 92.5% pure silver combined with 7.5% other metals, usually copper. This combination has become the internationally recognised standard for fine jewellery because it strengthens the silver while preserving its natural beauty.

Pure silver is wonderfully bright but relatively soft, making it less practical for everyday jewellery. By adding a small proportion of other metals, sterling silver becomes significantly more durable without losing the qualities that have made silver one of the world's most treasured precious metals for centuries.

At Wue, we choose 925 sterling silver because it perfectly reflects our philosophy: timeless materials, thoughtful design and jewellery that is made to be worn, enjoyed and become part of life's story.

Is sterling silver real silver?

Yes. Sterling silver is genuine silver. The "925" hallmark simply indicates that the metal contains 92.5% pure silver, the recognised standard for fine sterling silver jewellery.

Occasionally people assume sterling silver is somehow "less real" than pure
silver, but the opposite is true. Sterling silver has been the standard for fine jewellery for generations because it offers the ideal balance between purity and durability. This is the reason you will find sterling silver used by jewellers around the world for jewellery designed to be worn every day as well as treasured for a lifetime.

Does sterling silver tarnish?

Yes. Like all genuine sterling silver, it naturally reacts with oxygen, moisture and sulphur compounds in the air, creating a thin surface layer known as tarnish.

While many people worry when they first notice tarnishing, it is in fact one of the characteristics of authentic sterling silver rather than a sign of poor quality or fault. In most cases, a soft polishing cloth or a quick dip in a good quality sterling silver jewellery cleaning solution is all that is needed to restore its natural shine.

Rather than seeing tarnish as a flaw, we see it as a reminder that sterling silver is a real precious metal with a life of its own - one that is designed to be worn, cared for and enjoyed because with with occasional polishing and simple care, sterling silver can retain its beauty for many years to come.

Can you wear sterling silver every day?

Absolutely. Sterling silver is an excellent choice for everyday jewellery.

One of the reasons we love sterling silver is because it is a precious metal made to become part of everyday life rather than being saved for special occasions. Whether you are heading to work, meeting friends or celebrating life's biggest milestones, sterling silver is a beautiful choice for daily wear.

Removing your sterling silver jewellery before swimming, showering or exercising will help preserve its finish and with simple care, your jewellery can be worn and enjoyed for many years.

Can sterling silver get wet?

Yes. Genuine 925 sterling silver can get wet, and occasional contact with water is perfectly normal. However, chlorine, salt water, soaps and household cleaning products can speed up the natural tarnishing process and affect the jewellery's appearance over time.

We recommend removing sterling silver jewellery before swimming, showering or exercising wherever possible. These simple habits will help maintain its shine and looking at its best.

GOLD PLATED (STERLING SILVER): FAQs

What is gold plated jewellery?

Our gold plated jewellery is created by applying a layer of real gold over sterling silver using a specialised plating process. This gives each piece the warmth, richness and timeless appearance of gold while creating jewellery that is beautifully wearable and accessible. Gold plating has been used in jewellery for generations because it combines elegance with versatility. It allows beautifully crafted designs to capture the look of gold while remaining suitable and affordable for everyday wear.

At Wue, we choose gold plated finishes when they complement our designs and allow us to create jewellery that is elegant yet effortless to wear.

Does gold plated jewellery contain real gold?

Yes. Gold plated jewellery contains a genuine layer of gold applied to the surface of the piece. Although the layer is much thinner than solid gold, it provides the warm colour and luxurious appearance that has made gold one of the world's most treasured precious metals.

Gold plating allows us to offer beautiful, thoughtfully designed jewellery while maintaining the balance between quality, style and accessibility that has always been important to Wue.

Does gold plated jewellery wear off?

Yes. Like all gold plated jewellery, the finish will naturally wear over time through regular use. This isn't a defect or a sign of poor craftsmanship – it is simply the nature of plated jewellery. How quickly the finish changes depends on how often the jewellery is worn, the environment it is exposed to and how it is cared for. With thoughtful wear and proper storage, gold plated jewellery can retain its beauty for many years.

At Wue, we believe jewellery should be worn and enjoyed rather than hidden away. A little thoughtful care is all that is needed to help preserve its beauty for longer.

Can you wear gold plated jewellery every day?

Absolutely. Gold plated jewellery is designed to become part of everyday life, whether you are dressing for work, celebrating a special occasion or simply wearing a favourite piece because it makes you smile.

Removing jewellery before swimming, showering or applying perfume will help preserve its finish, allowing it to remain a treasured part of your collection for years to come.

NATURAL GEMSTONE: FAQs

What are natural gemstones?

Natural gemstones are minerals formed by nature over thousands or even millions of years beneath the Earth's surface. Their colour, clarity and patterns are shaped entirely by natural processes, making every stone beautifully unique.

This individuality is one of the reasons natural gemstones have been treasured throughout history and continue to be valued in fine jewellery today.

At Wue, we choose natural gemstones because they bring colour, character and individuality to our designs.

Are your gemstones real?

Many of our collections feature carefully selected natural gemstones chosen for their beauty, quality and unique character.

Why do natural gemstones vary in colour?

LEATHER: FAQs

What is genuine leather?

Genuine leather is a natural material made from animal hide, valued for its strength, texture and ability to age beautifully over time.

Unlike synthetic alternatives, genuine leather develops its own character through everyday use, becoming softer and more individual with every journey it shares.

It is one of the reasons leather has remained one of the world's most enduring materials for quality accessories.

Is genuine leather real leather?

Yes. Genuine leather is real leather.

One of its defining characteristics is the way it naturally develops a rich patina over time. This gradual ageing process gives every piece its own unique appearance and is highly valued.

At Wue, we choose genuine leather because quality materials should improve with age, not simply deteriorate. Unlike many synthetic alternatives, genuine leather develops a beautiful natural patina through everyday use, giving every piece its own unique character over time.

What is a leather patina?

A patina is the gradual change in colour, texture and finish that develops naturally through regular use.

Rather than being a sign of wear, a patina is one of the qualities that makes genuine leather so distinctive. It reflects the journeys, experiences and everyday moments a piece has shared, ensuring no two leather accessories ever age in exactly the same way.

Can leather get wet?

Yes. Genuine leather can tolerate occasional light moisture but prolonged exposure to water should be avoided. As a natural material, leather contains fibres and oils that help give it its strength, flexibility and character.  Excessive moisture can affect these natural qualities and alter its appearance over time.

If your leather accessory does get wet, allow it to dry naturally away from direct heat and at room temperature. With sensible care, genuine leather will continue to develop the rich patina and character that make it such a premium material.

How long does genuine leather last?

With sensible care, genuine leather can last for many years.

One of its greatest qualities is that it does not simply wear out - it develops character. Over time the leather softens and a natural patina develops, it gains character while making every piece a lasting companion rather than something designed to be replaced.

We think that is exactly how quality materials should behave.
